MATHS TUTORING

I offer personalised, effective maths tuition for UK primary and secondary school students from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4, with excellent progress into A-Level for continuing students. My teaching is personalised to each student, based on building real confidence, and designed around their individual goals.

Who is it for?

My tutoring is ideal for students who:

  • Need to build confidence and strong maths foundations

  • Need consistent, day-to-day support to keep up at school.

  • Want to learn to their full potential and achieve excellent results as early as possible.

  • Are aiming for top 8/9 grades in exams.

  • Want to accelerate their learning in order to prepare for early entry/exams - independently of their school programme.

  • Are in Elective Home Education who are being educated at home instead of a traditional school.

Exam preparation

For students focused on exam preparation, tuition is aligned with the National Curriculum for England and prepares them for major UK exams, including:

  • GCSE ( Foundation / Higher )

  • IGCSE ( International GCSE )

  • A-Level for continuing students

  • International A-Level for continuing students

  • 11+

  • SATs

Each student’s tuition is tailored to the exact specification and exam style in accordance with the exam board they are entered for. I currently support all main UK exam bodies, including:

  • AQA ( AQA Education, OxfordAQA )

  • Edexcel ( Pearson Edexcel )

  • OCR ( Cambridge OCR )

  • CIE ( Cambridge International Education )

  • WJEC ( Welsh Joint Education Committee )

Accelerated programmes to pass exams early

A lot of students truly thrive in their education through accelerated learning, and take GCSE, IGCSE or A-Level exams independently from their school, at their own accelerated pace, through private exam centres.

This option is not limited to home education; motivated students in mainstream schools can also take exams early if they wish. I support families through the planning, pacing, and preparation needed to make accelerated routes realistic and successful.

Catch-up support

For students who feel that they need to strengthen confidence and core maths skills, I offer supportive tuition.

  • We go right back to where things started to feel difficult and rebuild understanding step by step.

  • We look at the gaps before moving on.

  • Lessons are highly individualised and paced carefully, with lots of guided practice, simple explanations and positive feedback.

  • We aim to improve accuracy and problem solving.

  • Students start to experience real progress.

Home schooling

I offer highly individualised tutoring for children undertaking Elective Home Education, tailored to each family’s educational vision. Home schooling provides a fantastic opportunity for students to excel in and truly enjoy their maths education. It can be a unique journey of discovering mathematics at the child’s own pace and in their own way – and, where appropriate, to prepare for and sit GCSE and A-Level exams earlier than many of their peers in mainstream schools that follow a fixed timetable.

In addition, I support parents with planning and structuring their child’s maths learning outside of lessons, staying organised, and managing communication with local education authorities. This includes help with evidence gathering and, where required, written confirmation of the tutoring being provided.

Who am I?

I am a highly qualified, experienced Maths and English teacher with over 15 years’ experience helping students achieve excellent results in UK schools. I hold MSc and MA degrees, a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education), and QTS (Qualified Teacher Status). All tuition is delivered by me personally, from the very first lesson onwards, so students never have to worry about being passed between different tutors or dealing with tutor rotation. You can read more about my background and approach on the About Me page.

What do lessons look like?

I provide modern, live online tuition. During lessons I use a professional graphics tablet and an interactive whiteboard so I can write and draw in real time to clearly explain each topic. The student and I work together on the same digital board while we talk over audio and video, making the experience very similar to sitting side by side at a desk - just without the travel.

Overall, the online format combines the personal attention of traditional 1-to-1 tutoring with the efficiency and flexibility of modern technology, giving students maximum benefit from every lesson. I have found this way of teaching works best for me and my students, delivering strong progress and flexibility, and I switched fully to online interactive education many years ago.

Interactive online 1-to-1 tuition benefits

  • Lesson recordings for revision
Sessions can be recorded at the student’s request so they can rewatch explanations, pause, and rewind when independently revising or doing homework.

  • Real-time collaboration
The student and I can write, draw, and annotate together on a shared digital whiteboard, making it easy to check working and correct mistakes immediately.

  • Instant access to resources
I can quickly bring in exam questions, interactive activities, past papers, and other online resources - so lesson time is used efficiently.

  • Structured digital notes
Screenshots and whiteboard pages from each lesson can be saved and shared, giving the student a clear set of notes to refer back to.

  • No travel time or disruption
Lessons take place at home, so there is no time lost travelling to and from a tuition centre. For example, two lessons per week with a 30-minute journey each way would cost a student around 8 hours of travel time per month – and significantly more for a parent if they wait during the lesson. Online tuition gives that time back.

  • Flexible and reliable scheduling
It is easier to fit lessons around school, clubs, and family life. Rescheduling is simpler, and there is no risk of “missing a week” due to transport issues. There also doesn’t need to be a difficult choice between holidays and vital education, as online lessons can usually be fitted into family trips as long as there is reliable internet access.

  • Comfortable, low-pressure environment
Learning from home often helps students feel more relaxed and willing to ask questions, which is crucial for building confidence.
